What is a mouth?

A creek is a place where it flows into another reservoir, such as a lake, sea, reservoir or other river, or the place where it spreads over land and evaporates or is completely pumped out.

For example, in the mouth of the Volga - one of the largest European rivers - the city of Astrakhan is located.

Usually there are two types of estuaries: deltas and estuaries.

  • The delta is a low-lying stretch at the mouth of a river that forms due to river sediments. Often the delta splits into separate sleeves, but not always.
  • Estuary - the place of flowing into deep-water areas of reservoirs, in which there is no sediment. It has a funnel shape, expanding towards the pond.
