The process of creating brooches of epoxy resin and dried flowers

Jewelry made of epoxy resin and dried flowers always evoke thoughts of warm days, of hot summers or delicate spring. Here we have just the last case, and to make such a cute bunny rabbit, we need a little inspiration and a few necessary tools.

First you need to prepare everything you need:

  • resin and hardener;
  • wooden stick for mixing resin;
  • plastic disposable cup;
  • medical gloves;
  • wooden blank;
  • acrylic brush and paint;
  • PVA glue;
  • dried flowers;
  • toothpick;
  • file and a lid or jar (cup), which will close the workpiece.

The resin is kneaded according to the instructions on the packaging, each resin has different values. I have Crystal 9 resin, 4: 1,2 ratio (by volume) and 4: 1 (by weight).

the main thingthat you need to remember when mixing resin and hardener, these are proportions, whether the product hardens (if you do not add hardener) and whether the product becomes brittle (if you pour hardener).The secondwhat you need to remember is slow mixing, andthe third- consistency, which in the end should get. First, the resin will be quite liquid, this is normal) after about 10-30 minutes (depending on the resin again) degassing will occur when the bubbles come out of the resin and it will gradually thicken.

It is worth noting that bubbles come out of a thicker resin more difficult, it should be taken into account when working. I like the consistency of fresh honey, which is tough, but not so thick resin. But it is better to apply resin to brooches and wood blanks in general, since the probability that the resin will drain is higher. I wait about 3 hours from the moment of mixing the resin, then it turns out to be both liquid and not too thick (again, all individually, be guided by your own feelings).

So, we mixed the pitch and set aside. We take a wooden blank (can be purchased in stores for creativity), I took for example the shape of a rabbit, it is small, only 3 x 3 cm.

Grindsandpaper, on both sides, until you get a less smooth side. And then paint it, I usually apply 3 coats. Be sure to have layerswell driedotherwise the resin will become cloudy when in contact with acrylic.

Edges can be left like that, but you can go paint. I do this: I take a small piece of a sponge for washing dishes or regular foam rubber, dip it in paint, put the excess on paper and walk along the edge. Next, lay out our composition of dried flowers. It is important that the flowers are well dried, and it should be borne in mind that some flowers may change color due to the resin effect, and some may become transparent.

I have a blade of mouse peas, tear down and some other field flower.We lay out and glue with PVAand brushes for the fact that the flowers we have not surfaced, when we fill with resin.Leave to dry thoroughly and fill with resin. Fill very carefully, drip droplets with a toothpick and “take them away” on the workpiece, especially at the edges, keep it so that our resin does not spread. I put it on the dishwashing sponge, but you can do it just on the blackboard or on a tray, the main thing is to have a file on top, in case the resin still drains

What if the resin is still glass?

Do not panic 🙂 I take a cotton swab dipped in alcohol and wipe the place where the tar comes from and the file where everything has run away. I take another file and put a blank on it.If the resin runs away anyway, then I leave, then, when it hardens, I remove the sandpaper and, if necessary, pour the second time.

This rabbit is a brooch, so on the other hand we will need to glue the pin for the brooch, with the help of glue-seconds, a heat gun or the same resin, only in a thicker version.

All! This is the beauty that awaits us in the end.
