Parquet: application and selection features
Parquet board, made of natural wood, is a reliable and time-tested lumber for laying flooring. The range of proposed solutions continues to grow rapidly every year, so often the choice of this or that option becomes a real problem, especially for an inexperienced buyer. That is why it is necessary to know all the pros and cons of the parquet boards supplied, their types and features. This will allow you to choose the most appropriate option for your task.
Parquet or laminate
Going to change the floor, many are faced with the difficulty of choosing the right material. Most often the question is between the parquet and the laminate. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to study in more detail their properties and operational characteristics.
Of course, parquet is a natural, environmentally friendly material and with proper care can last for more than a dozen years. This board has a multi-layer structure and consists of several layers glued together. The top one gives the parquet an attractive appearance, the middle one is made mostly of pine or spruce lamellas, and the bottom one is a 1-2mm plywood backing. The transverse arrangement of layers and lamellas gives the board greater mechanical strength. In addition, in addition to the decorative layer of precious woods, an additional protective layer is applied to the front. Thus, the merits of parquet can be attributed to the following:
- environmentally friendly material made of natural wood
- easy installation due to the locking mechanism;
- unpretentious care;
- does not absorb otherworldly odors, resistant to sunlight;
- long service life (with proper care and maintenance).
Laminate is a more modern, synthetic alternative to natural wood board.It looks like a twenty-centimeter panel consisting of several composite layers. The lowest one, as a rule, is made of resin-impregnated moisture-proof paper or plastic, which imparts a certain rigidity to the structure. The medium consists of wood-shaving polymer, which provides the specific elasticity of the structure. The top is covered with a special film or foil, which can imitate not only the texture and shades of natural wood, but also ceramic tiles or, for example, stone.
The merits of laminate can be attributed to the simplicity in the styling, allowing you to perform all the work yourself, without the involvement of specialists. In addition, modern manufacturers use only safe technologies and materials of manufacture, so this floor does not emit harmful substances and does not pose a threat to health. The film covering the board of laminitis, reliably protects it from moisture and point mechanical damage. This distinguishes it from a parquet that is vulnerable enough to such impacts.
Give an unambiguous answer to what is still better - quite difficult.It all depends on the individual wishes of the customer, as well as operating conditions. For example, in rooms with high permeability is best to use wear-resistant laminate. Such coverage will last much longer than parquet and will not lose an attractive appearance. The parquet floor is able to keep warm and looks much more solid, which allows you to create a more attractive interior.
Types of floorboards
Parquet can be several varieties, differing in the number of rows of slats, as well as the number of veneer in the front layer. Thus, you can choose a one-, two-, three- or four-lane board. The most popular and sought-after is a parquet with three strips.
In addition to the layers of veneer, flooring can vary depending on the grade of the source material for the manufacture of the top layer. In this case, the texture and color of wood, as well as the presence of knots, sapwood and other "defects" are taken into account. Thus, the parquet can be divided into several categories: select, natures or rustic.In the first case, all the slats are perfectly matched in color and texture, without knots and other noticeable defects. The floor covering of the select is the most homogeneous, therefore it is one of the most expensive. Nature involves the selection of boards, similar in hue and tone, perhaps the presence of small, barely noticeable knots. Rustic is one of the brightest options, where boards noticeably differ from each other in shade, while creating a rather attractive and vibrant color of the coating.
When choosing, the easiest way is to start from personal preferences, financial opportunities, and also the features of the interior design concept.
