How to grow your beard
I want to grow a beard, but how do I get past the itchy stage?
Shampoo the stubble two or three times a week along with a conditioner. This will soften the bristles and add moisture to the skin, says cutting-edge celebrity hair stylist Asgar Saboo. If that doesnt help, try rubbing in a hydrocortisone cream (such as HC45, £3.45 from Boots) to relieve irritation. Also, use a beard or moustache comb to minimise curl, suggests Mus Imali, master barber at Ted's Grooming Room. "It's the curliness that makes it itch.
What trimmer should I use?
Matt Hughes, who is a bearded barber at Murdock London’s Covent Garden shop, recommends Wahl. "They offer affordable, professional clippers," he says. "Look for a smaller set which will make shaving around the jawline easier."
As for what grade to use, start high and slowly work your way down. "For stubble, go for a grade 1; for a beard you’re looking at grade 4 or 5," suggests Saboo. “For a soft beard line, gradually decrease the grade by 0.5 so the beard blends naturally"
Where should the neckline be in relation to my chin?
A smart and easy solution to the dilemma of where to draw the neckline is to sit it just on top of the Adams apple and draw a line diagonally towards the corners of the jaw, advises Hughes.
