Choice of ceilings for home

Three types of ceilings are traditional in our country - they are painting, wallpapering and whitewashing. All these measures require prior alignment and thorough surface preparation. These finishing techniques have recently been increasingly replaced by various options for modern finishing materials. They can be divided into two broad categories: adhesive and suspended.

Glue ceilings

Ceilings of this type are close to traditional methods of finishing. They are rectangular or square panels made of extruded polystyrene. The front side of these panels can be painted under wood and stone or covered with film. The surface of rectangular tiles, as a rule, is smooth, and on the surface of squares a relief is created imitating thread or stucco. The tile is simply glued to the ceiling with polyvinyl acetate glue or liquid nails.
The material is convenient in work, because it is practically weightless, if necessary, it is easily processed with a wallpaper knife, and its sticker does not require any special skill. Before installing styrene plates, it is recommended to prime the cleaned surface with PVA glue diluted with water. If the tiles due to the small irregularities of the ceiling do not fit well, fix them while the glue is drying with tailoring pins. To give a complete look between the wall and glued tiles lay a special ceiling plinth.
Laminated tile can be washed, non-laminated - vacuumed or wiped with a dry cloth. It should be noted that polystyrene does not like too bright sunlight - under the influence of ultraviolet it turns yellow.

Dropped ceilings

Suspended ceilings differ in type of construction and appearance, but all of them are suspended at a certain distance from the ceiling, hiding the communications underneath and various irregularities. Along with this, the issues of sound and thermal insulation are solved.
A very wide range of stretch ceilings. Extremely interesting for the bold design decisions of their makes the possibility of creating sophisticated bulk designs. For the manufacture of these ceilings use heavy-duty vinyl polymers that meet international requirements of environmental standards and fire safety. The advantages of such ceilings are quick installation and durability.
Durable, lightweight, environmentally friendly slatted ceilings. They are frost resistant, so they can be used in unheated rooms during the cold season. The leading element of the ceiling is a thin aluminum plate coated with varnish. Such ceilings have a wide range of exterior finishes and colors. By installing between the main panels of thin profiled rails and various fixtures, you can vary the appearance of the ceiling. Installation of slatted ceilings does not cause difficulties. Complete with decorative plates is a bearing profile.
Especially popular are cassette or raster ceilings. They are assembled from a variety of plates stacked in special frames. It is important that in their manufacture do not use asbestos and phenol-formaldehyde resins, which makes these ceilings non-combustible and environmentally friendly.
